About PracticeVerdict
PracticeVerdict is an independent editorial publication reviewing software used by therapists, counselors, and mental health practices. We exist because most "best EHR" content in this space is written by people who have never paid for a license, or quietly funded by the vendors being reviewed.
What we cover
- Mental health EHR / EMR systems
- Telehealth platforms for therapists
- Therapy billing and clearinghouse tools
- Clinical note documentation systems (SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP)
- Therapist credentialing services (Headway, Alma, Grow Therapy, Sondermind)
- Practice management software for group practices
What we don't cover
- Patient-facing therapy platforms (BetterHelp, Talkspace, Cerebral)
- Mental health symptoms, treatment recommendations, or patient-side content
How we work
PracticeVerdict is a synthesis publication, not a testing lab. We systematically read G2 and Capterra peer reviews from clinicians with 6+ months of platform ownership, HIPAA compliance documentation, vendor product documentation, clinician community sources (r/therapists, r/socialwork, r/psychotherapy, private clinician Facebook groups), and trade press (Behavioral Health Business, Mental Health Tech News), then present the synthesis through a transparent 5-criteria weighted framework. HIPAA non-compliance is treated as a hard gate: products that fail HIPAA technical safeguards are not reviewed. Our full methodology is documented on our methodology page.
Editorial independence
We participate in affiliate programs for many of the products we cover. This is disclosed at the top of every article in compliance with FTC guidance. We do not allow vendors to review or influence our coverage before publication. A product's affiliate commission rate has no bearing on its score, position, or recommendation. Where two products would otherwise rank identically, ties are broken on the lower commission, explicitly to bias against pay-to-play.
Who writes for PracticeVerdict
All articles are produced by the PracticeVerdict Editorial Team. We publish under a single editorial byline rather than rotating individual authors. The credibility of clinical software reviews comes from methodology, source transparency, and consistency over time, not from a celebrity reviewer. Where domain expertise is required (HIPAA interpretation, specific clinical workflow nuance, billing edge cases), we cite from peer-reviewed clinical literature, trade-press veterinary coverage, vendor documentation, and aggregated G2 + Capterra owner reports from clinicians with established posting history. We don't invent anonymized practitioner quotes.
